Exciting Endo Events Held During March

       For Endometriosis Awareness Month!

Exciting events focusing on endometriosis took place during Endometriosis Awareness Month! Women's struggles with this condition are being recognized globally by organizations and conferences dedicated entirely to endometriosis. Two such conferences held last month were the Second Annual Scientific Symposium of the Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA) in New York, and the World Symposium on Endometriosis in Atlanta.

The EFA brings professionals from many different fields together to advance the understanding and treatment of endometriosis. This year's Scientific Symposium took place March 18-19 at the New York Academy of Sciences. The theme is, "Let's Talk About Sex & Endometriosis. . . Seriously!, the Science and Surgery of Deep Disease." Topics presented included the psychosocial impact of painful intercourse, the role of stem cells, and the latest surgical techniques to treat deeply invasive endometriosis.

A companion to the Second Annual Scientific Symposium was the Third Annual Blossom Ball, a highly successful fund raising event sponsored by the EFA. Celebrities, some of whom have suffered from endometriosis, lend their fame to boost the Ball's prestige and the donations for endometriosis research and advocacy. Padma Lakshmi is a co-founder of the EFA. The Co-Chairs of the 2011 Blossom Ball were Susan Sarandon, Cindi Leive, and Eileen Guggenheim.

The World Symposium on Endometriosis was a premiere medical meeting at the Atlanta InterContinental Hotel held March 24-25. Over 50 world leaders in endometriosis diagnosis and treatment will present their latest findings and their knowledge gained over decades of treating endometriosis patients. In addition to scientific presentations, opportunities to train in the latest robotic surgical techniques are available.

A future, very exciting conference will be the 11th World Congress on Endometriosis at Montpellier, France, to be held September 4-7, 2011.
